How the Program Works
There are two mandatory appointments: Spring and Fall. The Summer appointment is optional and can be added if you wish to vaccinate for Potomac Horse Fever, Strangles, and/or booster for West Nile. As in the past, you need to choose one of the two de-worming programs offered—strategic paste worming or daily Strongid C plus Quest+ biannually. If you choose the Strongid C program, your horse qualifies for the Pfizer PreventiCare Colic Assistance Program.
**This year we will be adjusting our strategic deworming program to reflect the growing concern for developing resistance in the worm population. The wellness program will now include two fecal exams year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Please do not deworm your horses after January 1st to get the most useful information from the spring fecal exam. Please see our website www.belac.net for more information on changing deworming recommendations.
**Our own Dr. Jamie Pribyl recently completed the nationally renowned chiropractic training program at Options for Animals, so this year we will be offering her chiropractic services in our Wellness Program summer, fall, or Performance Horse Wellness visits. Please see our website www.belac.net for more information on chiropractic exams and treatment.
Performance Horse Wellness
(Appointment to take place between January 1 st and March 15th)
We are excited to offer an additional optional appointment designed to fit the needs of your performance horse! This appointment is designed for those horses that are asked to perform at a high athletic level. We will perform a complete soundness examination including musculoskeletal palpation, joint evaluation, gait evaluation, and flexion tests. We now offer digital radiography, so you may want to include one or more of the x-ray series available to establish a baseline for the future and/or detect early changes before they become a problem. If radiographs are indicated or requested during your Performance Horse Soundness Evaluation, you will receive 20% off our regular x-ray cost for that series when you pay at the time of service.
You Make the Choices
Choose the options that most closely fit the needs of you and your horse and fill out one enrollment form for each horse. More forms are available at the clinic and online at this link. Select the optional procedures you would like to have included in your program by placing an “x” in the box to the left of the procedure. We recommend blood work (complete blood count and profile) on older horses (>20 years old) and on any individual with suspected problems. Sheath cleaning can only be done in heated barns or when the temperature is above 32 degrees. Powerfloats are recommended annually (or a least every other year). Horses over the age of 20 should be floated annually. Only one call charge will be assigned to multiple horses at the same location when the visits can be coordinated at the same time and the horses are enrolled together. Please call the clinic if you have questions or if you need assistance in the enrollment process.
You can estimate the fee for your personalized wellness program by listing the discounted fee in the right column and adding up the totals, or we will calculate it for you when you return the completed enrollment form.
Please sign up for the program of your choice by February 15, 2011 to qualify for your wellness discount.
PAYMENT MUST BE RECEIVED AT THE TIME OF ENROLLMENT.
Optional procedures such as floating or sheath cleaning that were not selected at enrollment, can be completed at the wellness visit at a discount when paid for at the time of the service.
We will send reminders but it is your responsibility to schedule the appointments within the time frame suggested.
Wellness Program Services are non-transferable between horses. If a horse enrolled in the Wellness Program is sold or becomes deceased before completion of the program, we will credit your account for the remaining balance of the services not performed.
