BELAC Goes Digital

We are pleased to announce that the Buffalo Equine and Large Animal Clinic has recently purchased a portable digital X-ray machine!

We've got the technology

Digital X-ray provides us with state-of-the-art technology to explore subtle lameness issues, to complete extensive pre-purchase examinations, and to investigate other diagnostic problems requiring radiographic imaging. A digital radiograph gives us a clear image within seconds of snapping the picture. This allows us to determine if the positioning and exposure are correct so that costly and time-consuming re-takes are unnecessary. We can often interpret the radiographs immediately and implement a treatment plan at the time of the exam.

Our clinic is also equipped with several portable ultrasound machines, enabling us to diagnose and document soft tissue problems. We have used them routinely for many years to examine the mare’s reproductive tract, diagnose pregnancy, and assist in breeding with cool shipped semen, but they are also extremely helpful in diagnosing tendon and ligament injuries. None of these tools preclude the need for a thorough history and examination, but they can help us determine a specific diagnosis much more easily.

We’ve Got the Expertise

Dr. Jamie Boulter, who recently became a partner in the clinic, interned at Pilchuck Equine Referral Hospital in Washington state before joining BELAC. She has also spent time at LaMesa Equine Lameness Center in Texas, Nandi Equine Reproductive Clinic in Pennsylvania, and breeds racing and barrel Quarterhorses.

Dr. Heather Damico joined our team in March after completing an internship with Piedmont Equine Practice in Virginia where she specialized in sport horse medicine.

Dr. Dave Wright has parlayed 30 years of practice experience with a recent four-month stint as an equine practitioner in New Zealand where he focused on reproduction and lameness in Standardbred racehorses.

Dr. George Theisen has been with the clinic nearly as long as Dave but he married well and has not had to finance college education funds. That has allowed him to assume a part-time status. He still graces us with his presence and gifted experience several days a week.

Dr. Steve Boster is our all-purpose veterinarian, comfortable working with nearly every species, from alpacas to Arabians.

We’ve Got the Convenience

Our crack support staff is ready to greet you cheerfully and schedule appointments at your convenience, often with same-day service. We have consciously purchased equipment that can be taken to your stable so you don’t have to trailer your horse and waste time traveling. We look forward to providing you with these expanded services.
